Internet and Technology Use Policy
In keeping with our mission to provide accessible information in a variety of formats, the Zadoc Long Free Library provides public access to the Internet. It provides safe and equal access to all constitutionally protected materials on the Internet within the means and boundaries of our policies and the law.
Library computers and Internet access may be used for legal and ethical purposes only. Time may be limited to an hour if people are waiting.
The library is in compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act, providing help to children and parents on how to safely, efficiently, and effectively use the Internet; and prohibiting inappropriate use of library computer equipment and resources. Technology protection measures (Internet filters) are used to block or filter Internet, or other forms of communications and access to inappropriate material. Blocking is applied to visual depictions of material deemed obscene or child pornography, and any material deemed harmful to minors.
US Copyright laws are the responsibility of each patron when copying or printing material.
Confidentiality and Privacy--the library does NOT guarantee that any username, password, email, or other information entered is private or secure.
The user agrees to hold the library harmless from any claims, losses, damages, obligations, or liabilities relating to the use of information obtained from the library’s computers. Parents are responsible for their children’s use of the Internet.
The library administration reserves the right to deny use of the Internet to anyone violating the policies of the library. Misuse or abuse of the guidelines may result in loss of computer privileges. Charges will be assessed for any damages or repair costs.
Children under 17 years of age are welcome to use the Internet with a permission form signed by a parent or guardian.
